19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard courts

A comeback Daniil Medvedev won his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid year, winning just one win at the big events and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serve in specific - led to him falling of the top ten and ultimately separating with long-time mentor his previous coach.

Currently training with his coach and his other coach, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set win over challenger Moutet.

It is Medvedev's maiden title after the Rome competition and first on a hard court after March of 2023.

The win also means the Russian has achieved 21 championships at 21 distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I achieved when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his last six finals, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

The player's defensive play style and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had led observers to doubt if his capacity to perform at the top level was finished.

However the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and play assertively, supported by an better service.

He came back from a deficit in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking 4 of the final five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first professional title, took control to force a final set.

He defended 4 early-game chances in a tight deciding set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent failing to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
