The star has donated the entirety of his twenty-five thousand pound award cash to the trust for venues, which functions to protect the UK's small live music spots.

He was awarded the cheque on 16 October as his new release People Watching was declared the best record of the past year.

Fender has chosen to hand the money over to the MVT, in recognition of the vital role local spots had in his initial steps.

"As an artist would not have achieved my current career if it hadn't been for all the performances I did around the region, and further afield, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, more than 150 of these spaces have ceased operations – roughly 16% of the total UK scene.

In the last year, major artists including Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the trust in its attempts to help venues survive, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which goes to help independent venues.

Fender also took part, raising over £100k on his recent tour to support 38 grassroots venues across Britain.

The donation assisted venues that were confronting imminent closure due to issues arising from water damage, fires and family tragedies, as well as permit problems, conflicts and noise complaints.

Some locations obtained funding support in modernizing facilities and gear that helped musicians and fans.

"The concept that money from performances in large arenas backs the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just sensible," Fender has stated.

The musician is among several artists to contribute his honor winnings to charitable organizations.

When Pulp received the award in 1996 for their album the album, lead singer Jarvis Cocker declared that the band would donate their winnings to the charity War Child.

That year, artist Ms Dynamite shared her award among multiple good causes, like the NSPCC and a charity for Sickle Cell.

"And I donated a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was growing up and they required new equipment," she told outlets.

Previously, they donated their prize money to the community center that developed their band, as well as other independent music bodies.

Additionally the 1994 recipients the group gave their award to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was diagnosed the disease.

"The victory was sufficient," remarked singer Small. "The money was the bonus but we didn't require the cherry, because we had the cake. So our victory impacted another person's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust shared it had protected a couple of local spots in that region, by placing them under community ownership.

The first in that area and the second in Bristol were purchased under the community ownership program, which is backed by Arts Council England and music fans who acquire "shares" in the venues.
