The anticipation about the recent awards show has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The question is finally answered. Larian Studios is developing a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Moving Beyond Original Sin
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team might be designing a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is widely praised and it's fair to claim it pioneered the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, player agency, and deep class systems—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what makes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities only possible with a specific type of character with a personal story.
The series is also famously flexible, allowing players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in lateral fashion.
- You might progress the story because you recalled something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
